Why The Return To Blogger: An Asplanation

Jan 12, 2011

Before anything else, your horses: hold them!

Ah, the insufferable page loading time, the incessant error 500 messages, the slow loading. Yeah, I miss all that WordPress-related shit, too. Especially NOW that, with our return to Blogger (now out of Beta), FAD’s pages will be served lightning fast. Ain’t that great?

The main reasons behind this drastic move are technical and financial: WordPress demands a lot of time in terms of its updates. And when something gets broken (thanks to all the plugins), we were forced to find the proverbial needle in the haystack. Now who has time for that? I don’t.

Also, FAD’s then-dedicated server couldn’t keep up with the growing number of visitors–that’s why the error 500 messages were becoming more and more common and very irritating. There you were, you just clicked on another cameltoe picture of Paulene So, and pfft!—Error 500 page, Mr Two Dogs Fucking. It doesn’t really sound like pfft!, but you get it.

And economic: FAD’s growing number of visitors requires an even expensive dedicated server, something to the tune of $800 a month. We’re not exactly rolling on obscene piles of cash here, so that left us caught on the horns of a dilemma: if we don’t upgrade to faster, more expensive servers, all our FAD-surfing experience would continue to deteriorate in the long run, to the point when you really don’t want new readers anymore. Now that’s crazy: who wouldn’t want new readers? No FADdict left behind, right?

On the other hand, we took another look at Google’s old blogging platform, Blogger, and realized things are no longer as sucky as they used to be. Great improvements, I tell ya! And hey, the whole thing’s hassle-free. With no more technical stuff to deal with, we’d be able to focus on the things that really matter: blogging about tits. That’s the cream of it. That’s the reason why FAD was created in the first place, four freaking years ago, regardless of the medium this shiny golden shit is delivered.

So having said that, and if you could ignore Blogger’s not-so-cool Warning Page, we’re moving on to even better things. We’re staying here for now. Go tell your friends we’re cool.

BTW, as the domain is updated to point to Blogger’s own servers, you may experience some weird things in the next couple of days, like Server Not Found error pages. So if you’re readin this, to be safe, make sure to include the “www” when typing FAD’s URL, mmmkay?

Also: many readers in certain parts of the world may still see Server Not Found pages as Blogger’s servers are updated, and are unable to access FAD, hence the current lower number of online readers. This should be resolved in a few days.

Also also: the Search Box on the upper right sidebar is crap. If you search something like “Sora Aoi,” you might not get any result at all. So fuck that, just click on the label (Categories).

And Most Importantly:

We still need fun-loving contributor-bloggers. If you wanna join in the fun, send an email to maxurgente@gmail.com with a few paragraphs of your sample writing and why, despite this being a non-paying purely-for-fun gig, you want to join FAD’s prestigious, incredibly smart and manly pool of bloggers.

So FAD is hosted on Blogger's servers? Won't this make FAD vulnerable to being blocked because of all the tits it has???

curious….how much traffic did the site get?…while i'm all for hosting everything on a free platform…i'm still a bit curious how much traffic the site got that it required dedicated servers that cost an arm and a leg…

…in the end what matters is that the site's up, good for you…and the rest of us i guess, lol….

@mo, that's Gillian Chung, and that shot was among the “sex scandal photos” that sort of ruined her career in February 2008.

    get the pics here:

Hey Sir Mike, could you explain something to me. On Blogger's TOS, they mentioned that your if a blog featured adult content, it's not allowed to have ads or links to sites that contains paying links (not really sure if I got it all right). So if you pay blogger to have your own domain name, fleshasiadaily.blogger.com to fleshasiadaily.com, is the TOS about adult contents waived?

    January 13th, 2011 at 4:30 am #

@CA3, the key word there is “percentage”: if your blog is nothing but galleries and links to other adult paysites, without much original content, that's when you fall under what the TOS considers “freeloading motherfuckers.”

FAD, on the other hand, is a highly intellectual discusser of the female human anatomy that does not intend to earn anything at all from its superhuman blogging efforts (wink, wink).

    @The Purist,

we were thinking about co-location, hence the $800 price tag. but you're right: we should have considered tweaking the code and explored less expensive options. but as i've said, things have changed, and i don't have much time tweaking anything. maybe in a year or so, when FAD's finances have improved, we'd go back. but right now, i'm liking the old Wham, Bam, Thank You Ma'm! thing with Blogger–we can just blog, and not think about server maintenance and all that stuff. but i appreciate the enlightenment.

Just a suggestion Mike: always keep a daily backup just in case Blogspot decides to do something nasty. Long live FAD! We're enjoying this new home.

    Dear FAD,

You lost a lot of your share of viewers when
    the following things happened:

    1- Incessant web server issues
2- Writing articles and posting images of women
around the age of my grandmother
    3- Irrelevant content
4- *Highly* moderated comment system, i.e., if
you don't want to see comments which may
offend your ego, you don't approve of them

But not exclusive to those items only. Gone
are the golden days of FAD.

“But the inability to resolve fleshasiadaily.com
is stupid. Fix your DNS config.”

    @Uh,

it has been fixed. it will take some time before Google is updated with the new values. we've also placed a 301 redirect (from fleshasiadaily.com to http://www.fleshasiadaily.com), and if it isn't working in your area right now, it will be in a couple of days.

Does setting the “adult content” option to “yes” remove the warning? I found the info here:
