Thanks to the sharp-eyed FAD fans who spotted the unquestionable similiarity between the latest FHM cover featuring Aubrey Miles, and a Jessica Gomes shot from SI’s 2008 Swimsuit special.
You be the judge. FHM fail after the cut.
First they hire photoshop noobz, then they apparently fired everybody who had any hint of a creative bone in their body. What gives guys? Aren’t our awesome Filipinas beautiful enough to put on your cover without masking the hell out of them with Photoshop? Either that or you have no faith in your photographers. They should be taking pictures that are good enough to publish without countless coats of digital paint. When you have 20 different adjustment layers and filters loaded onto one picture, that just means that your photographer failed, your stylist failed, and your concept failed. Just my opinion.
FHM Philippines seriously needs to look around for a new creatives team. They could start HERE. There’s more talent in half that group than there is in FHM’s whole graphic design staff, who couldn’t spell c-r-e-a-t-i-v-i-t-y if Willie Revillame spelled it out on cue cards.
A question for the FAD fans who’ve read this issue: Did FHM at least credit SI or mention that it was an homage to that particular photoshoot?

Just got my own copy of the latest issue. There is the inclusion of the FHM 1oo Sexiest and the July issue in this envelope like encasement. The issue is thicker, substantial features and nice articles but I would have to say that the quality of the content seems to be going down. Its passable in my terms. I just hated the fact that they copied the SI issue of Jessica Gomes. It was the first thing that caught my eye when I glanced upon the cover a week ago. Yes, they must come up with better themes and features if they dont want for MAXIM to take the limelight in being the best Men’s Magazine in circulation.
And please People, stop being judgmental with “thegreatest”, cut him some slack. Just be thankful that he is managing this site with Mike not around. We just have to pray he comes out of this dilemma. Either way, keep up the good work.

this is a free country and sites like FAD help balance out an otherwise boring world. let’s not get too emotional though. some posters out there just join the emotional bandwagon. if FHM copied, fine. call attention to it by posting what you feel (but MAN, make sure when you do post something online make sure you write using correct grammar! e.g. the words “you’re” and “your” are NOT one and the same!), write their editorial team directly and complain, choose not to buy the mag (nobody’s forcing you to buy them) and move on.
in my humble opinion, all those who think FHM should literally google creativity have already cast the first stone. most of us at some point have copied or taken inspiration from something or someone else. it happens. and making magazines is a tough industry. i do agree that in this instance FHM looks like they copied it. local TV networks do that too. a hit show in the u.s. can spawn a local watered down version. pinoys copy movies. and i am pretty sure other local magazines at some point do get their “peg” or inspiration from other offshore titles. even local bands rip off hooks or melodies from foreign songs and pass them off as originals.
forgive the litany. just sharing my view. more power to FAD. i believe in what you do and what you stand for. and thank heavens for a free country. if we were in mainland china we wouldn’t even have this opportunity to discuss, argue, express our ideas freely.
