China Proceeds In Utterly Destroying Wei Tang’s Means To Buy Expensive Food, Nice Lingerie

After not directly stating the reasons why they’re carefully, calculatedly destroying Lust, Caution star Wei Tang’s career (or what’s left of it), China’s ever-lovable State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television (SARFT) has recently come out to “explicitly” say that yes, yes, and yes: Wei Tang has been the subject of damnation because she’s been very, very bad.

And the reason is simple: because Wei Tang’s image represents “gaining fame by taking her clothes off.” Or bluntly, Wei Tang’s fame, mainly deriving from her nude scenes in that one film, may have a negative influence on teenagers and inspire them to do the same thing. Like, you know, teenagers might come out of their houses in droves and give free blowjobs to film directors.

The consequences of SARFT’s blacklisting have been severe for Wei: her commercials have been pulled out from broadcast, she wasn’t at last week’s Hong Kong Asian Film Awards, and the movie offers have vanished. Oh, the humanity.

Meanwhile, I’m keeping eyes open for her.
