Shu Qi To Star In ‘Street Of Dreams’ With Robert De Niro, Andy Garcia

Taiwanese star Shu Qi (or Hsu Chi or Hsu Qi) has an upcoming megafilm project called Street of Dreams to be produced by Fred Roos, the dude responsible for The Godfather II and The Godfather III. No wonder there’s Robert de Niro and Andy Garcia with her. Anyway, another actor included in the lead is Korean Choi Min-soo.
Street of Dreams is based on a true story about Montana Joe, a Japanese-American gangster in the 1940s. The film’s plot is easy to guess based on the cast alone: De Niro as Italian Mafia boss, Andy Garcia as another Mafia boss, Choi as Montana Joe’s Korean friend, and Shu Qi is probably the requisite prostitute/damsel-in-distress/Asian fuck buddy who will most probably be killed somewhere in the middle. Curiously, the film’s producers are still looking for the right person to play the lead role as Montana Joe.
For those who need remembering, Shu Qi started out in showbiz posing for nude magazines and starring in softcore erotic movies like Sex and Zen (which I’ve seen, and for me it looked more hilarious than erotic). Shu Qi somehow won a serious acting award in the mid-1990s, which ushered her way to mainstream showbiz. In 1998, shortly after winning that “serious acting award,” Jackie Chan quickly sprung to action and got her to star opposite Jackie in the film Gorgeous.
Shu Qi was also in that Asian action flick (with lots of ala-Matrix bullet time and running on walls) So Close, as well as in My Wife Is A Gangster 3.
