Meet Teresa Carpio: The Cheerleader Lesbian In ‘Across The Universe’

If you’ve already seen Julie Taymor’s movie Across The Universe, you might wanna know the character named Prudence in the film is Filipina Teresa Victoria Carpio, or now known as simply TV Carpio (see clip above).

I saw the film months ago and I gotta say it has its good moments. It’s a musical, featuring modern renditions of Beatles songs (just like what the Bee Gees did with Sgt. Pepper’s in the 1970s), and me being a hardcore Beatles purist didn’t really like, for example, the slow ballad-y version of “I wanna hold your hand.” But still. Overall, the film has nice things to offer. It even got an Oscar nomination for its costume design.

As for Teresa, and I quote the press release:
Born Teresa Victoria Carpio in in Oklahoma City in 1981, T.V. is a singer, songwriter and actress. She is the daughter of Asian performer Teresa Carpio. The younger Carpio performed on stage as a back-up singer to her mother, who also recorded one of her compositions.
Carpio has acted in varous TV shows in the U.S., including “The Jury” and “Law & Order.” She debuted in Broadway via “Rent” as Alexi Darling and was cast in other Broadway productions.
